delivering more than you would expect

Doing our bit for the environment

Like lots of companies, Burden Transport Ltd have recently been trying be more environmentally aware. This came about when the company started making deliveries on behalf of one of the countries leading plastic recyclers.

This job entails our vehicles making collections of recycled material throughout the country for re-processing into new plastic items. This got us thinking that we should be looking at ways to reduce our environmental impact as a company.

Recent initiatives have included looking at the use of Bio Fuels in the company’s vehicles and also looking at ways to effectively make the company ‘Carbon Neutral’.

We our now in discussions with leading authorities on both these fronts and hope to achieve these goals in the near future. One other way that we have already been able to reduce our impact on the environment is by replacing some of our existing vehicle fleet with more modern alternatives.

The new vehicles operate to current Euro 4 emissions standards. This is simple term’s means that they are 33 times cleaner than the vehicles that members of the company operated in the early 1970’s!

Lifting Expectations

Does your business need a lift during the current financial climate? Well if the answer is yes, Burden Transport might just be able to assist, quite literally. We have recently added a crane vehicle to our fleet that enables us to offer a wider range of delivery options than ever before. The vehicle is fitted with a Hiab crane so it is able to offload itself. Since putting the vehicle into operation at the end of March 09’ the vehicle has proved hugely popular with customers who required their goods to be offloaded, when forklifts or other lifting means are not available.

The new vehicle was an obvious choice, being another Volvo FM. This means we have been able to standardise our fleet to what we believe is one of the most economical commercial vehicles available today. The spec of the vehicle enables us to lift and load items up to 7,000kgs. The crane can also lift items up to 1,200kgs at over 10 metres. We can also load plant and other wheeled items up to 14,000kgs with the use of the vehicles hydraulic ramp configuration.

Like the rest of our current fleet the vehicle operates on a nationwide service, offering both dedicated and part load options 7 days a week. We hope that operating a vehicle with such a varied and useful specification will continue to be as popular with customers old and new.

Volvos all the way

Burden Transport Ltd has recently expanded their vehicle fleet by putting a Volvo FM12 into operation. The vehicle is used for nation-wide distribution and will be coupled to one of the company’s 13.6m curtainsided trailers for most of its time.

It will also undertake more specialised deliveries from time to time utilising both flatbed and box trailers.

The vehicle fitted with Volvo’s automatic I shift gearbox, operates to Euro 4 emission standards. It will join our existing fleet of vehicles that is now 100% Volvo, continuing a relationship that began more than 30 years ago with a Volvo F86!

Supporting the National Blood Service

Members of staff at Burden Transport Ltd have recently given blood to the National Blood Service. This has given us the idea that we could support the campaign in other ways as well.

This will see vehicles in our fleet being liveried with the National Blood Service slogans. With our vehicles constantly being seen on the highways and byways of the UK it is hoped that we mite be able to do our little bit to promote what we believe is a vital cause to us all.
